Youth Coalition Advisory Board Attend Leadership Training

Seven members of the Youth Advisory Board of the Talbot County Youth Coalition for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Prevention recently attended a Leadership Training program at Echo Hill Outdoor School in Worton, MD. Echo Hill's program consisted of various individual and group initiatives that provide opportunities for personal and group development.

The leadership program provided individual challenges and group dynamics. Low element challenges focused on improving communication, establishing trust, exploring team roles, and creating self-awareness. High element challenges, including the giant ZIP line, focused on personal responsibility, accountability, self-confidence, and team support. The program was designed for students to focus on cooperation, confidence and team building as they work to address the problems of alcohol and other drug abuse problems in Talbot County.

The Youth Coalition is a program intended to get our youth involved in the problem that Talbot County has a growing substance abuse and addictions problem and assist in finding solutions. The Youth Coalition is part of an international Youth-to-Youth program which is a proven effective research-based prevention program. Programs typically include:

  • A clear NO tobacco, alcohol, or any other drug policy
  • This is a program in which the teens play the key roles in the program, agenda, activities and decisions
  • The program focuses on issues that teens are most likely to face; alcohol, drugs, peer pressure, sexuality, suicide, etc.
  • Stresses the development of leadership

The Youth Coalition is looking for new members who are interested in taking a leadership role in the community.
